How To Make Crusty Nigerian Samosa

Nigerian samosa is one of the goodness I’ve ever tasted and wanted more.

Nigerians have varieties of snacks recipe that are not only delicious but fulfilling.

Nigerian samosa is categorized under small chops. Small chops are finger foods found in parties organized in Nigeria.

Other varieties of small chops in Nigeria are the Nigerian puff puff, gizdodo, spring rolls, beef kebab, pepper cow liver to mention but a few. These recipes mentioned can be taken down with chilled drinks.

The preparation of the Nigerian samosa is similar to the Nigerian meat pie, because it has a filling and dough but fried not baked like the Nigerian meat pie.

To Make The Nigerian Samosas

Ingredients(For the filling)

  • Grounded meat
  • 4 medium Irish potato
  • 1 handful green peas
  • 1 teaspoon fried shallot
  • ½ teaspoon rosemary spice
  • 1 fresh pepper
  • Little fresh ginger and garlic
  • 3 medium carrot
  • 1 small green pepper
  • 2 seasoning cube
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 medium onion

For the Samosa Dough

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon grated nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 5 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 120ml water

Preparation

  1. Wash and chop the Irish potato, carrot, green pepper, red pepper, onion.
  2. Wash the green peas
  3. Wash and grate the fresh ginger and garlic.

Procedure

  1. Put the chopped potatoes, carrot, green peas add water and salt to taste, cook for 3 minutes.
  2. Drain water using a sieve.
  3. Put the ground beef in a clean bowl or pot, add grated ginger and garlic, fried shallot, rosemary spice, seasoning cube, salt, curry powder mix till well incorporated.
  4. Put little oil in a frying pan, add chopped onions, stir-fry for 2 minutes
  5. Add the seasoned grounded beef and stir-fry for 7 to 8 minutes, add green and red pepper and frying for another 2 minutes.
  6. Add the cooked potato content and stir-fry for 5 minutes.
  7. Transfer to a flat plate and leave to cool completely.
  8. Sieve the flour, add grated nutmeg, salt, vegetable oil and mix till you incorporate the oil into the flour.
  9. Add water and mix till you get a stretchy and non-sticky dough.
  10. Cover for 15 minutes to stretch more.
  11. Transfer the dough on a flat surface and knead for 5 minutes.
  12. Take little dough, spread with a rolling pin, carve out a circle shape using any circle object.
  13. Mix a little flour in water to make a paste which will serve as a seal to seal up our samosa to avoid bursting during frying.
  14. Rub the flour mixture round the carved samosa dough.
  15. Add the filling and fold in a triangle shape. Watch the practical video below to see exactly how twas done.
  16. Heat up your vegetable oil and fry on bold sides until golden brown.
