For the dough;

  • 500g flour
  • 100g margarine
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon grated nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 medium egg
  • 350ml water

For the Filling

  • Titus fish
  • Onion
  • Ginger and garlic
  • Seasoning cube
  • Curry powder
  • Rosemary spice
  • Fresh pepper to taste

You can use spices of choice to season the fish.

You can add salt if need be. Mine needed no salt, because the fish was already very tasty and needed no salt.

Procedure To Make Nigerian Fish Pie Recipe

  1. Sift the flour into a clean dry bowl
  2. Sift in baking powder into the flour
  3. Add salt
  4. Add grated nutmeg
  5. Add margarine and rub in margarine in the flour
  6. Break in the egg
  7. Add water little at a time
  8. Add margarine and continue to knead until a non-sticky dough is formed
  9. Transfer dough to a flat surface,and knead for 2 to 3 minutes.
  10. Transfer dough to a bowl,cover with a foil and leave for about 5 to 10 minutes
  11. For the filling
  12. Wash the Titus fish
  13. Season with rose Mary spice,curry powder,fresh grated ginger and garlic, seasoning cube,onion
  14. Add water and cook fish until it’s done
  15. Remove the fish from it’s stock,debone and mash
  16. Season with the spices listed.
  17. Heat up your pan,add very little vegetable oil
  18. Put the mashed fish,stir fry until dry and water is completely absorbed. Stir fry on low heat
  19. Spread the filling in a flat plate until completely cooled
  20. Spread the dough using a rolling pin, using a circle object,cut out the circle shapes dough,and scoop in the fish filling in the dough
  21. Brush edges with egg wash
  22. Fold exactly like you do your meat pie,then indent with a fork,repeat until you exhaust your dough and filling.
  23. Heat up oil,add the fish pie and fry on low medium heat

It’s done when it’s golden brown
