Chin Chin is a popular deep-fried Nigerian snack that’s crunchy, tasty. You can incorporate spices and fruits for colour,additional taste and flavour.
In this Chin Chin recipe, we will add Chocolate and I know you could tell that from the title of this post.
This was tasty Chocolate Chin Chin and yes no egg was added.
If you enjoy the basic Chin Chin recipe, then you would love this chocolate Chin Chin version. It’s almost the same process but with chocolate!
Plain flour is the base of this recipe and most snacks recipe, it’s advisable to be sifted to trap unwanted particules.
Chocolate is what gives the chocolate Chin Chin the brown colour and chocolate taste. You can use any chocolate brand of choice.
Baking powder as we all know is the rising agent and it makes Chin Chin soft, it’s used in most Nigerian snacks.
Sugar, granulated sugar to be precised is what sweetens the Chin Chin.
Salt gives the chin a balanced taste especially if you don’t like Chin Chin or snacks solely made with sugar. Salt is optional.
Margarine makes the chocolate Chin Chin soft too and not dry.
Milk makes the chocolate Chin Chin taste creamy and rich.
Water is also a liquid that adds softness to this snack.
We also need enough vegetable oil for deep frying.

To make Chocolate Chin Chin Recipe
Ingredients for Chocolate Chin Chin
- 6 cups flour
- 1 cup chocolate or any beverage of choice
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 and 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 80g margarine
- 200ml milk(Liquid)
- 200ml water
- Vegetable oil enough for deep frying
Procedure
- Measure out the flour and sift into a clean dry bowl
- Sift baking powder into the flour
- Add sugar,salt, chocolate, combine
- Add margarine and rub it in the flour
- Add liquid milk and water, mix until you get a non sticky dough
- Transfer to flat surface and knead for few minutes
- Flatten dough using a rolling pin
- Cut to your desired shapes and sizes
- Heat up cooking oil and fry on medium heat
- Stir at close intervals. It done when it feels light in the oil.
- Transfer to a paper towel to drain excess oil
- Leave to cool completely,store in an airtight container. Enjoy!
