Egusi and Ogbono Soup recipe is a delicious Nigerian soup.

I’ve been wanting to prepare this soup for the longest time, I keep postponing it. Reason, I don’t know.

This Egusi and Ogbono Soup is a soup I enjoyed while in my parents house, like we prepared it then. I got married and can’t tell whether I’ve made this soup for my family.

My kids are picky eaters and I halted between two opinions whether they will enjoy it or not, but to my amazement they did.

Egusi and Ogbono soup combo is a Nigerian soup that’s not too common like Egusi Soup or Ogbono soup. People rarely make this soup. Truth this soup combo comes out so delicious.

Egusi and Ogbono soup combo is so delicious, it’s a soup recipe you have to try out if you’ve not. It’s easy to make too.

To make Egusi and Ogbono Soup

Egusi and Ogbono Soup

Ingredients

  • 500g cow or goat meat
  • 1/2 cup Crayfish not grounded
  • 750g or sizeable smoked fish
  • 500g cow skin/Kpomo
  • 2 cups Egusi seed
  • A handful of Ogbono seed
  • 1/2 cup palm oil
  • 3 seasoning cubes
  • Salt to taste
  • 3 medium Bonga fish
  • Little bitter leaf

Procedure

  1. Precook the protein for 5 minutes
  2. Combine the ground Egusi and the ground Ogbono, add palm oil, mix
  3. Add enough water to cook the soup in the pot filled with protein
  4. Once the water boils, add the smoked fish, ground Banga, Crayfish and pepper. Mix and leave to boil
  5. Add the Ogbono and Egusi mix in bits
  6. Add bitter leaf immediately. It can be tender because, bitter leaf is a hard leaf.
  7. Leave to boil for about 15 minutes, add seasoning cubes and salt, stir
  8. Cover and leave to boil for another 5 minutes, mix
  9. Remove from heat and enjoy with any swallow of choice.
