Okro soup  with ogbono is one  healthy Nigerian soups you can think of.

It’s a soup that can be enjoyed by the young and old. Young I meant babies inclusive.

This is soup is one of the first soups introduced to babies when they start taking swallow and they so much enjoy it.

This  soup recipe took this soup to another level of taste and flavor.

Okro soup with ogbono recipe is a delicious Nigerian draw soup and prepared in most Nigerian homes, especially in the Eastern part.

This soup recipe has the frying and the boiling method of preparation.

The method of preparation I used was the boiling method because it helps the ogbono draw more.

This soup is similar to ofe Ugba in terms of preparation.

In the preparation of ofe ugba, Ogbono is not added, but aside from that, ofe ugba and okro soup share almost same ingredients.

Ogbono can be prepared alone without adding okro.

Ogbono soup is another delicious Nigerian draw soup enjoyed by a good number of Nigerians.

There are also varieties of Nigerian soup you can enjoy, such as egusi, vegetable soup, okro soup, and the rest of them.

These soups I mentioned above are generally enjoyed by Nigerians irrespective of tribe.

To Prepare okro soup with Ogbono

Okro Soup with Ogbono ingredients

  • 1 full custard cup okro
  • 4 tablespoonfuls Ogbono
  • 350g beef
  • 1 sizeable smoked fish
  • 300g Kpomo
  • 150ml palm oil
  • 2 handfuls crayfish (not grounded)
  • 1 medium onion
  • 2 seasoning cubes
  • Fresh pepper to taste
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 handfuls shredded ugu leaves

Preparation

  1. Wash okro and cut into sizes of choice
  2. Wash meat, fish and kpomo
  3. Wash onions and chop, wash the pepper, pound together with crayfish, grind the ogbono and set aside.
  4. Wash and shred and the ugu.

Cooking procedure

  1. Point to note please: If your kpomo is hard, cook separately without salt before you combine with the beef and fish. The Kpomo I used was soft so I skipped that part.
  2. Put the washed kpomo, beef and deboned fish in the pot
  3. Add little water and salt, precook for 5 minutes, add additional little water for cooking the soup, once it starts boiling, add chopped onions and the ground crayfish and pepper, stir.
  4. Once it boils again, add palm oil, stir and leave for 2 minutes, add grounded ogbono, stir immediately to avoid lumps.
  5. Leave to boil for 5 minutes, within 5 minutes, check the soup twice and stir in order for the ogbono not to stick to the base of the pot, then add the seasoning cube and salt.
  6. Add the cut okro, stir , add water if need be and leave for 2 minutes, add the shredded ugu leaves, stir, leave for another 2 minutes and remove from heat.

The soup is ready!
